2008 was great
Wow, I guess I took an unintentional bloggy break! December was super busy around here, but very peaceful. The kids in our church put on their 3rd annual Christmas Story nativity play. They always do such a good job! This year Dancerella was Mary, Little Prince was a shepherd, Sassyfrass was an angel and Sweetpea filled in for Baby Jesus. (A big Thank You to Donna & Kelli for the beautiful pics.) [My adorable nephew is Joseph, and the other two in the 2nd shepherd pic are Javamama's cuties.]
My sister and her gang came up for the week after Christmas, and my uncle, aunt & cousin popped in for the weekend. Our house was full of love and laughter!
Our year ended on a bittersweet note as my good friend Javamama and her family packed up and moved away. God called them to serve Him and they gladly, though tearfully, obeyed. We had an emotional last Sunday of blessings and goodbyes. Thank you God for Facebook (I’m not kidding!).
Expresso, Javamama, Superman, T-Rex and Butterfly:
WE LOVE YOU AND WE MISS YOU!!
I am looking forward to this new year as I make new plans and try new things. I want to be the wife and mother that God has designed me to be, not the poor imitation that I’ve tried to create.
MAY YOU AND YOURS HAVE A BLESSED NEW YEAR!

virtually friends
My friend Kelli was blogging long before I was, and she was always talking about her bloggy friends. I wondered how in the world you make friends through the internet! Now I realize that you do it the same way you do IRL (In Real Life): you find people with similar interests & just start chatting
)
Sweet & funny Rhen sent me this award.

I want to pass it along to:
My new internets pals Julie, SouthernGirlMusings, & Carrie (she’s on Rhen’s list so she gets it twice!). I don’t know these ladies very well (yet), but I enjoy their blogs & their sweet comments. I’m also sending it along to my IRL friends Jill, Kelli, Melanie, Tiersa, Shellie & Emme. Now maybe Tiersa & Emme will post something ;o)
I would also give this award to my sister Angela IF SHE WOULD EVER START A BLOG! She is creative, talented, and constantly showing me pics of her projects. Wouldn’t you like to be able to see them too?
thank you julie
The always sweet & thoughtful Julie at According to His Power has honored me with two awards. I’m always so surprised to receive these awards, and thankful that my little bloggy world is helpful to others.
Mathetes is the Greek word for disciple. The Mathetes Award was created by management by God and I would like to pass it on to the following people:
Carrie at chocolate the other white meat – I have a feeling that Carrie & I are very different (LOL), but she has a heart for Christ and that makes us sisters. She has thoughtful posts like this and this.
MotherJoy at Thoughtful Motherhood – She is so transparent and honest. I know her thoughts help more people than she can imagine.
Melanie at Mommy Wiggy – Melanie is a dear friend of mine. She has been given the gift of hospitality and she continually blesses those around her.
Shellie at The Carriker’s Craziness – Shellie is an old friend and we just recently re-connected. There is always something encouraging on her site.
The Community Blog Award celebrates people who reach out and makes the blogger community a better one.
I want to pass this along to Just Call Me Jamin! Her blog is a treasure chest of ideas for teaching your kiddos, whether you homeschool or not!
sunday seven blessings
~~I reconnected with an old friend and spiritual mentor this week. I was doing a search for something completely unrelated and the first entry was for his new blog. He was my teacher in the Bible Missions program I entered 17 years ago and brought Jesus out of the pages of my Bible & into my life. I will be eternally thankful for you RB!
~~Through his blog I found several other friends I haven’t seen in years. Love you Shellie!! And to everyone else, my internet provider is misbehaving & I can’t open your sites – I’m working on it!
~~All four of my kiddos came down with an upper respiratory virus last week. I’m thankful it didn’t turn into anything worse, and that they all four got sick at the same time!
~~The air is turning cooler & Fall is near!!
~~ My brother’s birthday is today – Happy Birthday Mark!!!
~~We had a Church Family meeting tonight to discuss a new building opportunity. I am so thankful to be part of a healthy, loving body.
~~Little Miss Sassyfrass is finally out of the pull-ups WOOHOO well, except for nighttime.
i heart my friend
Look what my precious friend Kelli bestowed upon me:

I don’t know that I deserve it, but I sure am excited to receive it!
The Nice Matters Award is given to “those bloggers who are nice people; good blog friends and those who inspire good feelings and inspiration. Also for those who are a positive influence on our blogging world. Once you’ve been awarded please pass it on to others who you feel are deserving of this award.”
I am passing this award along to Rhen and Carla Lynn. I’ve never met these women, but they have been very sweet & encouraging to me.
help Heather & wfmw- spelling game
Do you ever come across a story that leaves you feeling like you’ve been punched in the gut? That’s how I felt when I read that Heather has a brain tumor. Please, please take the time to read through her blog – you will be greatly blessed. Her faith is deep and her God is Mighty. She has already been through the fire once with her daughter Emma Grace. Emma Grace’s story is a must-read one too. It will bring tears to your eyes & raise the hairs on your arm; such a beautiful testimony!!
BooMama is giving us the chance to help Heather financially. She set up a Paypal donation button on her site. Please help her out if you are able – you can donate as little as $1, it all adds up. You can donate here. Please pray for her.
I found something that has my kids asking to do Spelling! If you have kids in 5th grade & below, get yourself to spellingtime.com. You have to sign up, but it is free. Just put in your child’s spelling words for the week and then they will be able to practice typing them, play a couple of games, and take a pop quiz. The quiz results will be sent to your email so you can know which words your child missed. Having my kids beg to do Spelling works for me!
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother
This topic keeps cropping up in conversations I’ve had recently – the need women have for a close-knit group of friends. A group where you can share thoughts, laughs, sorrows, burdens, dreams. Beth Moore feels it is a necessity. You can read her entire post here.
” My point is, Moms, you’ve got to have you a support group of other moms. Many who are peers. Others who are just ahead of you. They will be used of God to get you through everything from the mundane to the morose. As I told my class last night, our ancient female ancestors walked to wells and rivers together to get water. Our great grandmothers quilted and canned together. We, instead, are imprisoned in our minivans driving breakneck speed, thinking a few maniacal minutes on a cell phone can replace a regular play-date where believing moms can take some time to laugh and share. I don’t think it’s a luxury. It’s a necessity for mental (and often spiritual!) health! Because, you see,…
*No day full of dirty diapers has overtaken you but such as is common to moms.
*No tantrum has overtaken you but such as is common to moms.
*No “but, Mom, everybody is going!” has overtaken you but such as is common to moms.
*No “You hate me!” has overtaken you but such as is common to moms.
*No child’s first love has overtaken you but such as is common to moms.
*No child’s first broken heart has overtaken you but such as is common to moms.
*No broken curfew has overtaken you but such as is common to moms.
*No goodbye has overtaken you but such as is common to moms.”
